Between the ages of 0 and 3, children naturally want to do the things they see adults doing every day.
At Tiny Flower Montessori, children are given opportunities to participate in practical life activities that are appropriate for their developmental stage. One of these activities is setting the table for mealtime.
Children learn to carry and place tableware on the table.
They practise arranging plates, spoons, and cups in the appropriate places.
They observe, remember the sequence of steps, and complete the task independently.
They also learn to care for their shared environment and take care of themselves.
Each small movement helps develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, a sense of order, and, most importantly, independence.
And the most precious part is not whether the table is perfectly arranged, but the moment a child smiles and discovers:
“I can do it myself!”
Montessori believes that when adults give children opportunities and trust in their abilities, children gradually build confidence through the simplest experiences of everyday life.
