Brown Stairs Activity

In the Montessori program, the Brown Stairs are one of the teaching materials that help children develop their senses and abstract thinking. Designed from 10 wooden blocks of the same length but with height and width decreasing from the largest block to the smallest block, this material is a perfect support tool for children aged 3-6, helping to develop awareness of the difference between sizes, improve hand-eye coordination, and build a foundation for mathematical and logical skills.

Objective of the Brown Stair Activity

5. Develop sense of height and width: Children learn to distinguish blocks by size, thereby developing observation skills and spatial thinking.

6. Develop hand-eye coordination skills: When arranging wooden blocks, children learn to adjust their movements accurately and skillfully.

7. Builds a foundation for math and logic: Recognizing the differences between blocks prepares children for abstract math concepts such as tall, short, wide, narrow, and even the concepts of order and sequence.

8. Developmental Benefits

• Abstract thinking: Children gradually understand the concepts of size and distance without having to see things in real life.

• Coordination skills: Stacking blocks requires precision and hand-eye coordination, supporting the development of fine motor skills.

• Patience and self-regulation: Through each trial and error, children learn to regulate themselves and become more patient in completing tasks.

Working with the Brown Ladder is not just a game, but also an important part in the development of thinking and skills of children from 3 to 6 years old according to the Montessori program. By using simple but meaningful tools, children are created conditions to develop naturally and comprehensively, preparing for higher stages of learning and development in the future.

Sincerely,
Tiny Flower Montessori
